Kharchen Trülku Wangchuk Rig’dzin Rinpoche’s teachers
One of his main teachers was Mi’pham Rinpoche, from whom he received many teachings and transmissions in vision and dreams. Mipham Rinpoche was from the gö-kar-chang-lo although he dressed in red robes. Mi’pham Rinpoche was married to the Tshering Chenga, the five sisters of longevity, or five khandros. Externally he did not consort with human ladies, but he did so internally and secretly.

Mi’pham Rinpoche is an interesting figure because he had terrible life circumstances and was always ill. When revealing gTérma he would fall ill. This is because people were jealous and constantly aimed black magic at him. He would say:
“If you want to practice my Lineage, don’t be popular, just practice my Lineage secretly.”
Mi’pham Rinpoche is famous because he could never be defeated. Nyingma, Kagyu, Sakya, Gélug, Bön… all tried, but none ever succeeded. That is what ‘Mi’pham’ means literally: undefeated.
He claims:
“People can defeat me with sticks, stones and pistols, but nobody can defeat me through wisdom.”
Rinpoche never met him physically but met Dilgo Khyentsé Rinpoche, his mind son, and Khenpo Jig’mèd Phüntsog Rinpoche. Khenpo Jig’mèd Phüntsog Rinpoche had many visions of Mi’pham Rinpoche.
On Dorje Phurba – Vajrakilaya – is not connected to a particular Lineage. It is a practice that comes from Guru Rinpoche himself. Rinpoche was always highly interested in phurba because his predecessor had achieved realization through phurba practice.
When HH. Dujom Jigdrel Yeshey Dorji Rinpoche, Chatral Rinpoche and Khenchen Jigme Phuntshog Rinpoche gave him the transmission of the The Razor of the Life-Force of the Utmost Secret Kilaya he told him to engage in this practice every day while at the monastery. Rinpoche had many dreams and visions from this repeated practice. He developed some common siddhis such as clairvoyance. Through phurba, he could sometimes predict what was going to happen. In the morning, he would be able to tell people what was going to happen later in the day. He also had this clairvoyance through gTormas – he would look at the gTorma and could tell what was going to happen that evening. If someone got sick back home, he would engage in phurba practice, and they would heal.
